A virtual community for trainees of all levels

MMC currently uses Slack, a social media platform with public forums & private messaging features. Anyone can sign up, create a profile, and start posting questions or networking with other members. A huge advantage is that you will always know who is answering your questions - everyone's profile will have their name and level of training.

What does it look like?

The Slack community is organized into channels for different conversations. These include mcat-casper, academics, interviews, & many more. When someone answers a question, it starts a thread for other members of the community to follow.

The journey to pursuing medicine in Canada is not always easy. Not everyone has the same access to mentors, or people they know that have been through the process. Companies have started to offer expensive, one-on-one advice to help students build their application to medical school, which only increases the disparity in access to mentorship. While this counseling may be of questionable value, no one should feel that they must pay for advice.

Together, we are trying to improve access to mentors in medicine by amplifying the voice of our mentors through a virtual-based approach, providing a safe space for anyone to ask questions.

Our lead physician

Dr. Noah Alexander is an Emergency Physician in Vancouver, BC.  Since he started his career in medicine, he always wanted to help open up the black box of medicine to aspiring students. He created the medical mentor community for exactly that purpose.
